The Script

Overview

A strong script is one of the most important elements of a successful movie. The script must be fully developed, coherent, engaging, and in the case of A Gift for Laughter, coffee-spritzing-out-the-nose funny!

Our script writer's desk... Well, it could be!

There are three steps to creating the final script:

  • Synopsis - Within a broad view, describe the story elements behind the movie. We have already created a synopsis. (See the Appendix.)
  • Treatment - Create a simple road map that demonstrates how the elements from the synopsis will be placed on the big screen.
  • Script - Once the treatment is approved and funding is secured, a full-blown, detailed script will be created. AGFL has developed a treatment...
    And, it’s a gem!

The Cast

We expect to have a 50/50 ratio of archival footage to comedians talking. America’s most popular humorists will want to participate in the film. Quite a few have already been interviewed.

A broad cross section of comedians, comedy-writers, and others in the humor field will comprise the filmed segments. Because we hope to make a movie that has broad audience appeal, it is crucial to include a variety of comedy types, backgrounds and experiences.

Jewish Comedians
The list is long. The talent is deep. And, the sheer amount of humor is almost an embarrassment of riches. A Gift for Laughter has already done extensive research to compile the definitive list of every known Jewish comedian and comedy expert in North America from which to assemble a cast for the movie.

Many Jewish performers are open about their Jewishness and even include it as part of their act. Others are less direct, but almost all recognize the importance of a Jewish mindset infusing the profession of which they have chosen to be a part.

The AGFL team will lead a comprehensive sweep to contact as many of these Jewish performers as possible to let them know about the movie. This ambitious effort will also serve as a recognition of such extraordinary professionals working in such a tough industry even if—due to logistics and time constraints—they are not all able to be included in the movie. Some of those that we aren’t able to include may make it into the sequel(s).

Non-Jewish Comedians

It is important to include a composite of non-jewish comedians and comedy writers who were influenced by Jewish humor. Not only is such a broad reach historically accurate, it will attract a more diverse audience. More

IMAX Version

Overview

IMAX, which stands for maximum image, is a motion picture system invented by the Toronto-based IMAX Corporation. Universally, IMAX movies are designed to make viewers a part of the action with screens that extend beyond the peripheral vision, thereby providing an amazing extended view of the action. The razor-sharp images and six-channel surround sound systems serve to immerse the audience in the films.

A Gift for Laughter will tap into state-of-the art IMAX technology. In addition to shooting in high definition feature file format, AGFL will employ a short IMAX component to generate buzz for the movie and serve as an additional revenue stream. More
